ATM Marketplace: It’s time for my bank to reinvent how it helps me manage my money

Posted by | Blog Posts | No Comments

It’s all about data isn’t it — big data, omnichannel data, and on it goes. But the truth of the matter is that there are some more pragmatic data solutions that would help us all.

I just finished my 2013 taxes. As always, it was a real hassle. One of the things that made it even more cumbersome was the fact that my bank had me move two of my business accounts to a “lower cost” product.

I didn’t realize at the time that this would mean that in so doing I would lose online access to the seven years of transactions they promised to keep electronically for me when I chose to save trees by going “paperless.”

I now have to depend on my own external Quicken records, or worse, request to have printed copies mailed to me from my bank, since they won’t let me download old statements, nor will they simply email me the data. They had to print it and send it by snail mail, which took about a week.

To add insult to injury, one of my credit cards was caught in the “Great Data Breaches of 2013,” and when the bank provided a new card, they again removed old card records from my online history.

All of these issues created problems trusting that I had everything in Quicken properly, as I never did get things to balance out, and have yet to find the time to figure out why.

Its time to completely reinvent how banks care for my data and yours, too. Read More

Better ATM Services CEO talks to Market Watch: Will new ATMs make your bank branch obsolete?

Posted by | In the News, Industry Trends and Publications | No Comments

Your ATM will soon be more than just a cash dispenser—in fact financial executives and analysts say the technology may soon be able to replace some human bank tellers and bank branches.

There are roughly 425,000 ATMs in the U.S., and many of those have already gotten an upgrade—or soon will. On Thursday, Citibank C +0.04%  told MarketWatch it will unveil new ATMs in the U.S. that “remember” customer preferences (like language), offer on-page scrolling (as on an iPad), let you check your balance without leaving the screen you’re on, and feature instructions that are more conversational; the new ATMs were piloted in New York City last year and will begin rolling out in other locales in February. The move is part of a larger evolution of the stalwart machines. In the past few years, Chase and PNC introduced ATMs that dispense $1 and $5 bills; Citibank and Wells Fargo began letting you get an email receipt of your balance rather than a paper one; and Bank of America and a number of credit unions began experimenting with video conferencing with a live person right on the ATM rather than keeping employees in every branch. The Prepaid Press: The State of Prepaid

Posted by | In the News | No Comments

In the beginning, there were calling cards that made it possible for immigrants to connect with family and friends back home. Many of those unbanked and underserved consumers, which today make up about 20 percent of the population, struggled with managing their finances — from cashing checks and paying bills to getting established with a bank account and building credit.

In 20 years plus, prepaid services and products have expanded from phone cards to online portals to a multitude of utilities and apps, empowering hard working consumers to function without bank savings accounts and check books. The current demand for innovative prepaid cards and virtual services has moved these tools to the epicenter of financial models.

The record turnout at tppEXPO’13 shows how far we have come. Technical sage and savvy marketer Eric Dumois, Senior Manager, Mobile Financial Services, MetroPCS, was this year’s Keynote speaker at our two-day conference. Presenting an overview of “The State of Prepaid: Changing Perceptions” and what it means for retailers, Dumois detailed the evolution and maturation of prepaid services, delivering unbanked and underserved individuals into the financial mainstream.  Read More

MESA, Ariz. — Better ATM Services is expanding an ATM-dispensed Visa prepaid card program throughout the United States. The move comes after the locally based company piloted the program through financial institutions in Arizona.

During the test program, Better ATM Services enabled ATMs at participating financial institutions to use on-screen options and minor hardware adjustments to allow customers to purchase Visa prepaid cards directly from the ATM. Menus allowed consumers to select between cash or Visa prepaid cards, according to a company release.

The national launch comes with one change. Customers can now choose the amount to be loaded on the card. The pilot program only allowed customers to choose from fixed values, the company added. Read More
